Today was a rainy, damp, chilly day. I decided that I wanted to treat my family to some warm and delicious dinner by making a batch of homemade vegetable soup and a loaf of whole wheat bread. Talk about lovin' your family by making some comfort food!
Anyway...while I was cooking, I decided to sit down with a cup of tea and watch Oprah. I caught a portion of her "Hook up" program and was especially moved by a hook up done by Will.i.am. He talked about growing up in a tough neighborhood and making it big against all odds. He also talked about giving back and making a better life for other kids in need. He started an i.am scholarship fund to send a child get to college who would not be able to go on their own.
Oprah did some screening of candidates and came up with four kids for Will.i.am to chose from for the scholarship. He was so moved by all of their stories, that he chose to give ALL FOUR kids a FULL 4-year scholarship that includes books and room and board. He was so genuinely heartfelt in the giving of these scholarships that he had tears in his eyes. Of course, I had tears in my eyes as well.
It feels so good to share a gift we have with someone else and was reminded of the gift we all have to share with others. We create beautiful, handmade projects with our rubber stamps that we could share with the special people in our lives. Some items that we create sit in our craft studios or homes waiting to make someone's day. I would like to challenge each of you reading this right now to think of someone special in your life that you could send a card to for no reason at all.
In the stamping world, we call this a "RAK" or "Random Act of Kindness". Who can you send a RAK too? How about sending out some extra Mother's Day cards to some special women in your life? What about a card for that special teacher or volunteer that helps your children on a regular basis? What about a card for your hubby or children for no real reason at all other than you being blessed to have them in your life?
I would love to hear about your RAK by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post!
Doing something special for someone today,
