Have you ever wished you could come up with a quick and easy little gift project or favor for your party? If so, this little treat holder is just the project for you.
Today is the first of many "Tutorial Tuesday" projects that I will be posting. Each Tuesday, you will see a new tutorial with a project that you can make at home. Is there something you have been wanting to learn to make? Just leave me a comment on my blog and I will work on a tutorial just for you and show you how to make that mystery project.
As you have seen in many of my posts this month, I have been using the Carousel Notes from the Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini catalog like crazy. I started off using them to come up with project for my Carousel Notes demonstration at our Spring Fling event two weekends ago.
I wasn't able to share the projects that I created until after the event so that my demonstration and samples weren't "old news" to people who attended and who also visit my blog.
In order to make this treat holder, you start off with one Carousel Note. The first treat holder uses the Wild Wasabi color while the tutorial and project at the bottom are shown using Soft Sky.
Fir
st, you are going to start off by scoring in from both sides of the Carousel Note 1 1/2" and 1 3/4". Then, from the bottom of the Carousel Note, you are going to score 1 3/4" and 2".
Note: I accented the score lines with pencil for this photo so they would be easier to see in this tutorial.
You are then going to cut along the score lines so that you have cut out the two triangle pieces on the bottom two sides. The photo here shows the left side already cut out and the right triangle being cut out. You will notice that I removed all of the scored areas in that triangle section when I cut them out.
Once you have the two bottom triangle sections cut out, this is what remains. You are now ready to flip it over and stamp a background on the other side of your project. Once that is done, you are ready to assemble your treat holder.
Assembly is just as easy as flipping up the bottom portion first. You will notice in this photo that the two score lines create some dimension to your treat holder. This makes it easier for you to put your treat inside the holder since there is a little bit of a higher pocket to insert your item into.
You will need to use a little bit of Sticky Strip on this project to keep all the flaps together.
When you insert your treat, it will push against the cardstock and adhesive a little bit causing it to pop apart if you don't use a good, strong adhesive that is made for projects like this.
Be careful where you put your Sticky Strip, however, you need to be sure that the side flaps cover the adhesive and it is not sticking out from under your project with nothing to adhere to.
Once you have adhered your treat holder together, you are going to wrap a band of cardstock or ribbon around it to add so
me interest and color. I prefer using Designer Series paper for my band.
In the sample completed sample shown here, I actually used a wider strip of cardstock (1" x 6") and then a strip of Designer Series Paper (3/4" x 6") from the Afternoon Tea collection to my project.
If you use cardstock as an extra accent on your project, you will need to play around with your cardstock to break the fibers to it is easier to mold around your project. I usually do this by holding on to the ends of my cardstock and rubbing them up and down along the edge of a table so that the cardstock starts to curl and be more bendable.
To finish, wrap some Designer Series Paper around whatever treat you have to fit inside and add a cute little punched embellishment and attach it using Stampin' Dimensional and you are done!
I hope you enjoy the addition of Tutorial Tuesdays to my blog. Don't forget to leave a comment on my blog with a project that you would like to see featured in an upcoming tutorial. Stay tuned for a new tutorial next Tuesday!
Enjoy and Happy Stamping!
